Honey is a sweet, sticky, yellowish-brown fluid made by bees collected nectar from flowers. It has its natural sweetness and it doesn’t deteriorate if properly stored. We observed that there are many honey products already existing in the market, but do we all know if those honey in the market are 100% pure? Unfortunately not all of the consumers know how to identify pure honey… So, we decided to share some knowledge on how to know if the honey you purchased from grocery stores or supermarkets are 100% pure honey. And in order for you to know that the honey we produce and sell are 100% pure honey, we conduct an experiment from our Philippine Tropical – Wild Honey.
These are some simple experiments that you can also conduct at home.
EXPERIMENT #1: Using Warm Water
Materials needed: A glass of Warm Water and Philippine Tropical – Wild Honey
- Pour a spoonful of Philippine Tropical – Wild Honey in to a glass of warm water
- Gently stir or not at all
- Observe if the honey will stick together and sink as a solid lump in the glass
Pure Honey does not dissolve in the water. If the honey in your experiment will dissolve, well may be it has an added some kinds of syrup or water.
EXPERIMENT #2: Using Fire
Materials Needed: Candle, cotton wick or a cotton pad, and Philippine Tropical – Wild Honey
- Dip the wick into a small amount of Philippine Tropical – Wild Honey.
- Now light the candle and hold it to the wick.
If the wick burns, the honey is pure. If it fails. water has been added to the honey.
So we tried to deep the cotton in the honey with added water. It refuses to burn and makes a cracking sound.
EXPERIMENT #3: Using a paper towel
- Put or Drop a honey on the paper towel, pure honey should not be absorbed.
You must be careful in identifying whether the honey you purchase is pure or not. Don’t easily believe about the myths about pure honey that are not scientifically tested, it’s better to have an experiment or have a laboratory analysis but if you want to do it at home you can do the above experiment. There are several myths around the internet like only pure honey can turn clockwise when poured, or only pure honey forming hexagons when left on a plate and covered with water.
